Hey everyone! 👋
We’ve recently scaled our IT team and brought on three new junior technicians. 🎉 I wanted to share a few onboarding tricks we’ve used to get them up to speed quickly in Kaseya VSA without overwhelming them (or our senior staff!):
💡 What Worked for Us:
- Custom Technician Role: We created a limited-access role with just Patch Management, Live Connect, and Ticketing. It’s perfect for training without exposing critical modules.
- Runbooks for First Week: Each technician got a simple runbook with 5 common daily tasks (e.g., restart a stuck service, check audit logs, patch a workstation). We included links to VSA scripts where possible.
- Script Library Favorites: We tagged our 12 most-used scripts so they always appear in their sidebar under Favorites. Super handy!
- Auto-Remediation Testing Lab: We used a sandbox org to let them play with policy management and automation without worrying about real-world consequences.
📊 Bonus: Reporting for Managers
We also set up a weekly dashboard that tracks:
- Script usage per tech
- Number of tickets resolved via automation
- Agent procedures triggered manually vs. scheduled
It’s already helped highlight which techs are getting more comfortable with the platform!
How are you onboarding new IT team members? Would love to see examples from other MSPs or internal IT teams. 🙌
